We also had a buddy in a Camaro a about mile ahead on the phone with my passenger acting as a spotter car. We also patroled the stretch for a bit to make sure all was clear. I had hit 174 ( 6k rpm ) before, but I had to top her out, lol. So anyway...

0-150 went by pretty quick. I eally didnt notice any floaty feel until probably after about 150. Even after that, it still felt "safe", lol. As safe as you can feel at that speed. Wasnt lifting or shaking, and I felt I had pretty good downforce and track with the road. Didnt notice the hood shaking at all. I dont have any scoop though. I watched the tach creep up on redline at 6k, then stayed in it till 6250. It actually was pulling rather well from 150 to around 170, but seemed like every mph after crept by. 6k to 6250 seemed like it took at least half a mile. At that speed, It did get slightly floaty, but still felt ok, not 100% secure needless to say, but not insanely dangerous.

What was trippy, was after we slowed, it felt like we were doing like 25 mph, and I looked and we were still doing 120. That was rather freakish.
Kool! Thanks for the details. I've never been over 160mph (GTO). That car was pretty stable up top. My S197 has the faux hood scoop which attracts lots of wind resistance over 120 mph, too much to be honest. I've thought about ditching it. Mine feels pretty stable at high speeds, but I've never been past 145 in her, so I was curious how yours behaved at 180. I know what you mean about losing your concept of how fast your going once you slow down. I've heard about people wrecking due to that, even getting off their motorcycles while their still moving, lol. It a weird sensation for sure.

My apologizes for thread jacking as well.... back to you OP.

If your curious of your speed and revs in certain gears, this might come in handy. http://www.race-cars.net/calculators...alculator.html Ya just have to know some basic info for it to work.

As far as being unsafe, I hit 181 in the stang not too long ago. Had to use that calculator to find out my speed. Took it to rev limiter in 5th. No reason to ever do it again though, lol, unless I change my gearing. Thats as fast as she goes. I did it as safe as I could though. I mean ya gotta have some fun.
Yeah your right about that. 400hp does seem to be the norm. And damn, 180 is freaking fast. That had to be pretty intense. My speedo only goes to 150. I doubt I would have enough power to get there, even though my speed govenor is off.
I'll just have to start saving for one of those new 5.0 gt's or maybe the gt 350. Haha

At 65 mph your 03 GT will rev to approx. 5K with 4.10's on stock rubber. Rev matching the engine to 5K when d/s into 3rd will help the transition to go smoother. And it will wake your car up.
FWIW, my 05 GT redlines at approx. 100 mph in 3rd, and I've compared its acceleration both ways at high speeds(70-90)....leaving it in 4th and rev matching in 3rd(as high as 5.5K rpm). The results are indisputible. It definitely accelerates faster in 3rd.

if you practice it, you just have to push in the clutch, smack the throttle up to/past 5k, and push it in gear. When I do it, its not gentle.

+1
AKA rev matching, as noted in my previous post.

You're welcome. Let us know if you notice an increase in your car's acceleration.

and just so im clear, your saying let off the throttle and push in the clutch, downshift to 3, obviously with clutch still in, then rev to 5K or a little over, then let the clutch out fast or slowly release it?, while pressing the gas.
