I gotta get the power to the ground!
You're 90% right here.

Erase "might" with, "will"

Good to have fun your first time out, I know I didn't.

I'm going to need wider tires asap for driving around on, i felt the rear kicking out pretty bad when i got to the top of 1st gear had to back off and haven't had a chance to do another 0-80ish run. and that was with traction control on. My M&Hs should be good for now at the track. I really dont know why they didn't put wider tires on these cars, the 235s are completely inadequate, even when stock. they were okay on the 3valve hainvg 100 less hp not anymore.

One of the officials told me to put T/C back on, and I figured OK for a first timer while I sort of figured things out.

It really was a learning experience and I think I can get in the 12's next time.
I know exactly what your talking about. I have experienced the same thing, spin less on public roads, spin worse at the track. I really think there is a fine line between having a well prepped track and having a ice skating ring for a track, depending on what is mostly running that day (crotch rockets and street tires ruin track prep), temps, moisture on the track, amount of VHT, etc. Did you by any chance drive through the water box on that first run? May have just been a lot of water tracked ahead of the box from the person before you too. Either way, I think you did just fine for your first time out. You'll be surprised how much you improve after each trip out.

One other I've noticed is that if I run immediately after they spray the track, I spin like none other (street tires). Even with my trailblazer, I can't go more than 1/4 throttle if I go behind that crap. Once a few cars with slicks go ahead, then it'll start hooking. Never really pinpointed that one.
