Default torque converter ???????

I was wondering what most of you guys are running on the street and track. I have contacted brenspeed about there TCI 3000 and they use them in all of there cars that go down the track without any issues and the cars remain streetable. Plus they even say that they have sold alot to customers without issues. So I was wonding what most of you run. I have read the bad reviews about the TCI's torque converters but brenspeed has never failed me and they warranty there work so there is some relief there.

you may get more response from the 05+ section. I personally run a dirty dog 3800 stall, but i dont think he makes converters for the 5r55's. I must say tho that my 3800 is about perfect, i deff wouldn't want anything smaller than that. and the driveability is still great. deff not stock, but it's only noticeable, it's not bad in any way.

Odd, must depend on who you talk to at brenspeed. They told someone else that with a saleeen supercharger you are already making peak boost at 2000rpm and they didn't see any better 1/4 mile times running one on their boosted autos.

I have seen someone that was NA, cammed, full bolt-ons that picked up a few tenths with one. I can't remember if it was a TCI or not though.

i picked up .5 with my converter. went from a 13.7 at 100 to a 13.2 at 102.5. i can see where you're coming from tho mishri, with a ts you're making all that torque that you prolly wont see much of any gain with one.

one thing to keep in mind with the s197 is the tranny can be made to shift hard/fast w/o a torque converter, just a tune. it's not the ol' "slush box" people complained about in the older autos. their words not mine hehe. If i'm remembering right the TCI converters are stock converters made to be able to rev higher and no other real difference in driving. But I might be wrong about that.

OP, if you can get some pre-converter times and post converter 1/4 mile times that would be cool, would help everyone know, I haven't seen anyone boosted do that before.

I'm not a fan of using a tune to make the trans shift faster. usually that involves just upping line pressure and i've seen enough people blow their **** from too much pressure. altho i have heard the the 5r55 and newer trannies are much better than the 4r70's and prior.

My auto trans shifts fast as hell once it's in the power band, but before that it's as if there is absolutely NO power at all off idle. I witnessed this all day long at the track today running the MT ET Streets for the first time. I couldn't get it under 2.0 even if I tried to with all sorts of launching techniques.

What a pitty when you're stepping on the gas off the line... and nothing happens )-:

To do list for next season;

high stall torque converter (3k)
one piece drive-shaft
Brenspeed Detroit Rocker CAMs

vortech's dont build boost till later, twinscrew would have been my choice with an auto. I agree, you'll need a stall to get some power out of that vortech at launch.

There still shouldn't be such a long pause before it accelerates though.. I might try lowering the PSI to 15 psi on my MT ETs...
