Default Raced a bike! (GS500F)

Came up to a stop light on a double lane roadway. For some reason there was a person riding a Susuki GS500F in 30 degree weather, but he was up for a quick race. Took off from a dig on my winter tires (dry road), but feathering the takeoff seemed to help keep the spinning to a minimum (and save my precious tread, lol). He jumped on me to 30mph, but by 60mph he was on my rear tire. By the time I hit 110 and let off he was 3-4 car lengths behind.

Dropped down to 70mph, and let him catch up. When he started to race by my rear fender I gunned it again and stopped his pull by the time he hit my front bumper. Took it took 110 again and put the same distance on him pretty easily.

I was so pumped, that is until I got home and realized this wasn't that much of a "super bike":

GS500F
47HP, 30 Tq
0 - 60 MPH 5.7 sec
1/4 Mile 14.48 sec @ 90.23 MPH
Top Speed 105 MPH

Also helps to explain his drop off near the top. Oh well, a win is a win!

not a bad race, I had a very similar race with a similar bike before, but It was no contest, I pulled from him very quickly.

Veryyy similar, it's always fun to race a bike.

My GF's brother has a '99 ZX6 that I've beaten before, while he was having some serious tuning issues. I've bought some 3.73 gears, FLSFCs, LCA's and plan on some new tires, while he has now fixed his tune. We're going to bring them to a local drag strip in the spring, should be interesting to see who comes out on top.

Michelin Xi-2, they've been great (I've already driven them for a winter in Oswego, NY without going off the road). Put the same exact set on my GFs Mazda6 too.

I'm confident enough with them to drive through VT and the Adirondacks in the winter for different ski trips.

I've def brought my car to some interesting places:

Michelin Xi-2, those are really nice tires... they apparently don't make them in my size Nice run with the bike..those old 500s usually give a pretty thrilling run for some of us slow cars.

You could always look for them on a pre-mounted rim from tirerack.com

Just relating with you man... the bigger bikes just rape us... not much you can do against them but the old 500s (Maybe the newer ones) don't pack as much heat.

Yeah I just try to run an all season so I don't have a ton of money out for two different sets of tire at a time. My current tires were 88 dollars each... and have a nice 50 or 60 passes on them from over the summer.. wish they had the kind of traction dedicated tires like yours but it's hard to complain for the money.

Yup, I hear you. I look at even a moderate sport bike nowadays and they complain about running 10 or 11 quarter miles Damn that weight to horsepower business...

Looking at what other cars are having trouble on the road sometimes (SUVs, AWD cars, etc) I'm convinced winter driving is at least 50% driver and 50% tire. No matter your tire, if you drive it smartly under the tire limits, you should be fine.

I make a nice 50 mile round trip all year in the camaro (for the past almost 11 years now)... it's just those 1 or 2 times a year I try to get aggressive that makes me wish I had a dedicated tire. I agree completely though... 50% driver/50% tire.

nice!

I just put some cheap firestone winterforces on my car, they were 80 a piece i believe. havne't got to try them out really yet, we've only had one snow and it was only like 3 inches but it got thru that no problem.
