I would plan on your first few passes being in the 14's anyway.

Nanaki...14's you can pretty much ride a bicycle naked, 13.99 you need a helmet, and a roll bar in a convertible. 12's are pretty much the same as 13's until you get to 11.99, then you need a roll bar in any car.

You can save money buying a helmet online but you should know your exact size or try the model on somewhere before you buy it. I have a funny shaped head and they all seem to fit different and a helmet that's too small really sucks because it messes up your hair so bad [8D].

J/K about the hair thing. It's not really all that important if you are only using it a few times. You only end up wearing the thing for like 10 minutes at a time anyway. Just borrow your buddies motorcycle helmet, if it conforms to the current rules. They will say the rating right on them.

Good luck.

Also any car running a sticky tire, will need a drive shaft loop. Things get more strict when get into the 11's, you will need a fire jacket, as well as the 6 point cage (newer cars 11.49, this is a recent rule revision due to so many fast cars that are out now). Things get even more complicated if you have a fuel cell or relocate your battery. Basicly the more modded the car the strickter the rules become.

if i have to wear a helment and run a 14.1 or something im gone to run my car into a wall just to raise the standards
Usually when you fill out your card for tech, under estimate what you expect to run. They won't be telling you to put on a helmet until they see you running 13.99 or faster

thats why there is more street racing, these damn tracks make it less and less fun by adding all these safety requirements. My friend has an 11 second mustang and when he gets close to the end he just hits the breaks a little because he doesnt have a roll cage.
