I thought that car crushing thing was a one time deal when they wanted to get awareness out for street racing rampancy?
I remember reading about it a long time ago when areas of calif. were having big problem with street racing so they crushed a couple of them to scare off kids. Didn't know they still do it... Seems like a huge waste of potential charity money.

Not sure, I haven't heard any of them crushing cars here, except for some dog and pony PR stuff with some old Honda Civics. The most recent, I believe in 2011 was a Lexus IS-F, but the story is it was actually a pre-production test mule that couldn't be registered in the first place, and was crushed as a PR stunt.
All joking aside, I know of two personally who were caught for street racing. One in an M3, another with a Hemi Dodge Ram, neither served any time, just 3 points on their records and some fines. They still have their cars.
In fact, neither have any points on their driving records because they took traffic school for 1 point, and two sessions of Level II Traffic school to remove the other two points.
