3.8 mustang vs 2.5 altima
Rated 260 on the SE-R 250 in the SE and 265 from the Maxima. It's assumed that Nissan underrates the Altima power to keep differences on paper between the Altima and Maxima and to not threaten or make the 350Z look worse.
If none of you believe me then troll Altima boards like you think we Altima owners are doing here and find out for yourselves. A 3.5 Altima in an automatic should easily run 14.7's or better Valcore. Especially with the 5 speed automatic transmission those are probably closer to 14.5-14.4
So do the power to weight ratios, if you wanna do theoretical math stuff. Magazine race here and what not. Then calculate in drivetrain losses. Who knows maybe it still wont come out right. Then if you feel cocky go to the Altima board and put $1000 on a race with one and see what happens. If you win you get $1000 bucks if you lose, well who cares, you wont lose right?
ByPopularDemand- ok you've beat 2.5 Altimas, my 2.4 Altima has beat plenty of your cars. Ever hear of a drivers race? Nobody said kill as in demolish V6 stangs, but I have killed as in beat V6 stangs of all years. Including the new ones the only 1/4 times I've seen from new V6 stangs were the 16.11 best by GIDDEUP. I ran consistant 16.0's and a best of 15.944 in my 2.4 with an exhaust. It's a drivers race if you beat that Altima owner then you are likely a better driver than he is or atleast comparable and your supposedly quicker car was able to show as such. Congratulations, don't go being cocky thinking you can beat ANY 2.5 Altima out there now. Just as I wont be surprised if a V6 Mustang beats me at any time, I expect you wont be so ignorant as to assume you will always beat a 2.5.

the altimas and maximas handle like ***. my buddy's 99 altima handles worse than my stang. i didn't buy my car for handling, i don't plan on racing in any "twisties", but god damn. i've only heard that maximas are bad, i've never been in one, so it's not really fair for me to say they handle like chit. i dunno if the newer ones are better either.
99's were a little boaty. I bet my '95 handles about as good as a stock GT 99-04. My cars lowered though with struts springs and a FSTB. I would say the 02+ 4cylinders are boats too, but the SE's and SE-R's are gonna handle much better. The Maxima's are better handling than the SE Altimas too but still none of them are great, they are 4 door Family cars.
EDIT: By the way I know this all from experience. I have driven a number of Mustangs, and I work at a Nissan dealership for the past 4.5 years so I have driven all of the Altima's and Maxima's out in those years and probably all of them prior (used car lot, except ancient maxima's).
