Well personally I like the sports car feel of the inside of a camaro and a firebird I really like the interiors in them like everyone says it is really a matter of personal prefrance. I donno what I would take between a black ss or a mach 1 I honestly would have to drive them both and test them to see which I like better cuz I LOVE the looks of both them.

I guess your personal preference can change over time. In 1975 when I got my first car, I passed on my mom's 65 Mustang HO 289, to get me a 67 Camaro. The 65 Mustang went to my Grandmother. I then owned 71 Chevelle SS 454, 74 Covertte 454, and Trans Am to name a few. Only in 2004, when I wanted a performance Vert with a back seat, did I change to Mustang becasue GM had nothing. I still daily drive GMC Denali and Silverado Z71, but all my fun cars are Mustangs/Cobra.

 

When I was shopping in the summer of 2003, I did not have this experience; all else being equal, the '01-'02 Mustang GTs and the '01-'02 Camaro Z28s were about equal in price, so that was not a deciding factor for me. I was looking for those model years because I needed to make payments and wanted to have some bit of a factory warranty, but it had to be used and therefore affordable.
I liked the Mustang interior better, more comfy and it seemed more solid (despite what JD1969 says, my interior squeaks and rattles to the point that I wanna drink drain cleaner). I'm not exactly knocked out by my cars styling, but the Firebird Formulas/Trans Ams were too expensive for the same powertrain. I was raised by my father to love GM and hate Ford, so that may have subconciously been a factor. Less subconcious was the fact that the Camaro came with an engine (under)rated at 310 hp, compared to the Mustang's 260. I also wanted an automatic, and if you compare the performance of an auto 2002 Mustang GT to that of an auto 2002 Camaro Z28, well, you know how that goes. If I didn't really care about performance (which most women, half the car buying public, usually don't) I would've more seriously considered the Mustang.

I too spent many years comparing the factory numbers for new cars from the factory. When you do that it seems most years the Camaro/Firebird was the leader. Then one day a friend of mine said, don't look at the factory numbers, look at what people are realy driving. It did not take long to see the aftermarket of the Mustangs had most of the Mustangs out there way outperforming the stock factory numbers.
Now one other thing I have noticed, when I drove my GM "hot cars" if folks noticed, they did not show it. When I drive my Cobra, everyone seems to notice and let me know they like it. Part of having a "hot" car is having folks notice. Mustang fans are by far the best in supporting other Mustangs!

 

I got the stang because I wasnt looking for a drag car. I needed a DD for work and school, and have a thing for stangs. If i was building a monster it would be an LS1 or a 5.0

 

I am glad that we can agree on this sidewayz! I dont get all the big hype about the 05's either. And I think Jdan is right. Just b/c the camaros/firebirds were discontinued doesnt mean that they were crap and everyone hated them. I probably have more respect for the LT1/LS1 cars than i do for most Mustangs. The styling crap is 100% opinion. I think an SS or WS6 looks better than any mustang ever(exception 03/04 cobra). Its all what YOU like. And redass, I consider the GT and the LS1 to be uncomparable. If u had to pay and extra 1000-1500 bucks, you are getting MUCH MUCH more car. Maybe the cobra vs. LS1 is better.

 

me....ive ALWAYS wanted a 5.0. when i got my '92 GT on 7/1/03, after i had had it for about a week or 2, my friend and i found a piece of paper i had written something on(in an issue of MM&FF)............."Future Mustang: '92 GT, black, or green/silver, flowmasters, frpp plug wires, flex a lite fan". MY CAR........bought it with: flowmaster, plug wires and the fan already on it........color: green/silver. FREAKED ME OUT. and he was like, "no way". i kid you not about that either. but, like ive said b4, if i had the $$, id have my 5.0, and a '93-'97 style SS......although now that i think about it, the LS1's ARE faster, but, i like the '93-'97 style better imo. so, i would like to have both(my 5.0 and an SS). but, in all reality, i would also rather have the WS6. BEAUTIFUL cars, and also fast. when i see one in my rearview, i literally get scared thinking hes gonna want to race me(i HATE losing, but, ill take it, cuz ive won more than what ive lost, and when i DID lose, its my fault). but, i like both 'Stangs and F-bodies.
