I thought the GT Vert and Cobra Coupe would be about the same, kind of a trade vert = IRS but I am not sure.

ORIGINAL: TommyV8

Would a GT vert really be 500 lbs lighter than a Cobra coupe?
I thought the Cobras weighed about the same as a Camaro, around 3500 lbs give or take. Would a GT vert weigh around 3000?

I've got to be close to him in weight, if not more. Take the weight of an 02 Premium vert GT and add this on:

1.) Saleen Series IV supercharger with Water-air Intercooler
2.) Light bar
3.) Subframe Connectors
4.) Front Splitter and other apprearence crap I've added.
5.) Cobra brakes

GT's don't have the lightweight alumimum blocks of the older cobras or machs so the engine weight ought to be somewhat comparable. I've also recently discovered that a T56 with aluminum driveshaft is several lbs lighter than a 3650 with stock driveshaft...

I'd like to compare my torque curves and hp curves with a cobra coupe because I think may be pushing harder down low or they just don't put down those numbers to the wheels. Otherwise, it really all comes down to the rear end.

I'm not sure how much weight those mods add, but my vert stock weighs 3200. So I got to believe those mods will make up the difference. Nice Kill. No offense but I was saving for the S/C and I decided to keep saving for the Cobra instead. Gotta love a fast Mustang though. Better get those headers on before he puts on his parts.

Cobras are heavy as hell, over 3700 lbs. a GT is around 3300 with a vert addind another hundred to that

none taken. I like Cobras just fine. My next vehicle might be one... otherwise I'd like to start a build with the Ford GT block (I hear it needs some fab work done to go in the front) and make a monster TT setup to put in this car. It all comes down to time and money. I'll never have that kind of money as long as I've got car payments.

Seriously though, the Cobra is rated at 390/390 at the flywheel, are you telling me that it only loses 9 hp and 6 torque through the drivetrain? I have a feeling that my hp/torque curve hangs over a cobra through the whole range, even if only slightly at certain parts.

The Cobra stated rating of 390HP is a bit under rated. With Just CAI and Exhaust mine made 424 HP to the Rear Wheels. Adding the smaller pulley and tune did very little for HP but made a large difference for low end torque.
Your car seems very strong, be proud.

i have seen one Cobra dyno below 380 rwhp stock. that's because there was a wad of tape on the air filter! this kids dad wanted to test drive it before he let his son buy it, and the kid taped the air filter so his dad would think it was slower. PFG.

Congratulations, its allways fun when you win against a better car/faster car.

*****But your biggest mistake was posting this, because now you going to get,if only the cobra had gears or if only the cobra had a KB....For once lets just accept this and clap to a proud mustang owner.

you should take you own advice good kill fallstar! you're probably pretty close in weight. how is your/ his driver mod?? im sure he'll be wanting a rematch after his new mods

There will definitly be a rematch. I'm adding headers, getting stickier tires, and possibly shedding some lbs. If that doesn't work, than I'm going with cams and valve springs then revving up to 6500. Can't make it easy for him.

4.) Front Splitter and other apprearence crap I've added.
Wouldn't call a splitter "appearence crap" when you're making that much power. On a 90hp Civic, it's useless. On a 400+ hp Stang, you'll be going fast enough that a splitter can reduce front end float.
