IROC Z28
So I passed an IROC z28 at about 45mph (Ive never heard of IROC Z28 only IROC Z but thats what his window sticker and graphics said)he revved me and slowed to about 30mph I slowed gave him 'the nod' and he gave 3 honks I dropped to 2nd gear and jumped on it He got out ahead of me by a lenth or so, but I pullled him back before we started braking he may have been a tad ahead, maybe his front axle was in front of my bumper when we got to a yellow and stopped to wait for the green light. I lauched and got out of the intersection ahead by the top of second about 70mph he was in my rearview maybe 2-3 car lengths. I slowed gave him a wave and headed home.
So anyone know anything about an IROC Z28? It looked mid '80s I'm going to google it next but I thought I'd ask your opinions.

I "raced" one the other day. I was behind him and he floored it so he got the jump before I could drop gears but once I did I started to reel him in however, he had to slow down for traffic in front of us before I could get him. after that we were just playing around, weaving and stuff
IROC Z, IROC Z28, there the same thing the Z just stands for Z28. Made them 85-90. You can usually tell what year they are too if you look at them, the 85 had no brake light, the 86 had a brake light mounted on the hatch, the 87 had the brake light in the spoiler, and 88-90 they changed the rims, they had one line through each 'spoke' and they changed it to two, I forget how to distinguish the different years though, but a 90 is less likely because it was only a half year production. In 85 they were all tuned port 305's, 86 on they had the option of being a tuned port 350. I can more than likely answer any questions you have about them, I have a 92 camaro myself, and I've studied camaros for years. I'm looking around for a fox body stang, which is why I came here to get some knoledge about them, I can tell you most anything about camaros but as far as mustangs go I'm brain dead.
I don't know a whole lot about third gen F-bodies (82-92) but the 5.7L tuned Port Injection made a ton of torque. It would fall on its face in the upper rpm range, though. The 5.0 TPI didn't really make much power at all.
Good kill.

The 5.0 TPI made about 15 less TQ than the 350TPI, but about 40HP less, so the difference was huge..
Anyways, the 85-87 Iroc-z's carried the Z28 with them. In 88 they dropped the Z28 from the name, took it off the RPO codes (but still left Z28 on the dash emblem).
Watch out for 88+ Z28's 350TPI's with the G-92 rear (3.23 gears). 240HP + 330TQ and they weigh under 3400lbs
