Raced an Evo
ORIGINAL: WRXtranceformed
You've also modified a good bit on your car, and the EVO was most likely bone stock if it still had dealer plates on it. I have a friend who owns an EVO MR (the highest model, biggest turbo, etc.) with mods almost exactly like what ROTM was describing. $1700 total, he bought an MBC, intake, full straightpipe exhaust, cam and a tune by one of the best Evolution tuners in the country (arguably). He ran a 12.2 on race gas and a slipping clutch. EVOs, like the STis, are great cars out of the box and are by no means a "drag" car... but they both share the trait of having a TON of tuning potential and the ability to make them very fast. The 4G63 is an incredible engine, and the MR's stock turbo apparently is good for up to 400whp with the right supporting modifications.
I will give it to you though, AWD is pretty easy to launch. It just takes some practice with fast-slipping the clutch, or you can just dump it and hope nothing breaks =p

I raced an evo before the trans went in, from about a 70 MPH highway roll, then from a few slower rolls.
It was a joke. I was able to pull on him, let out, and then pull on him again.
We pulled over and talked, and I looked over the car. He still had dealer plates on it, and it was definatly an evo unless it was the best fake job I have ever seen.
BTW, why would an EVO be hard to launch?? AWD should be easy??

are you certain that it was an evo, not a lancer? an evo with an AWFUL driver can run faster than your times, and the hardest part of drag racing the evo is launch...so unless there was something wrong with it, the evo should have easily pulled on you...not trying to talk trash, but the evos are pretty healthy...especially if it was an evo IX...with minor mods such as exhaust, intake, and a MBC, they are good for 12s...

They may be mid/high 13 second cars stock, but its all in they launch. My impression of the race was that a stock GT would be able to hang pretty easy from a roll.

They are faster than that, low 13's or 13 flat for the new ones.

I think it was an 04-05 that I raced, and it definatly wasn't a low 13s car by any means. The WRX I raced on video (in the vids section) would definaly eat it alive.
