power shifting
Well, launching can mean the difference in many close races. The Idea is to know where your car is most powerful(powerband). It's known as RPM's to a shifter. A car could be most powerful from 4000 to 6000 RPM's, for example. If that's the case, you would want to launch[sm=gears.gif] within those RPM's and try to shift within that RPM range. This keeps the car Screaming! If you shift outside of the powerband, the car doesn't move forward as fast. This is the key as far as I understand it. Obviously, you want to shift quickly as well. That takes practice.
what are some pros and cons of power shifting. i do it when im driving alone but i have never done it when racing an opponent. mostly because im not confident in my ability to execute every time. not yet anyway
Power shifting is effective when you do it right, BUT just know that it's harder on the clutch. It'll wear quickly. I've heard of some shattering. Think about it, if you keep your foot on the gas and miss a gear, you could run the engine to high. For dragsters and such, they are used to replacing parts. If this is your car to enjoy, I wouldn't do it too much.
