Default Front end shimmy and noise...

Hey everyone. Have a 2014 GT. About a month ago I slammed the front right wheel into a curb (in a sharp left turn), going slow at ~ 3mph. It hit hard enough to pop the retainer clips on the front lower panel (idk the technical name), without breaking anything.

Anyhow...ever since it has a front end shimmy at about 40mph and above. Not hard core, but slight.

I took it to get it aligned. That reduced the shimmy slightly. After looking underneath, I don't see any visible damage (i.e. anything bent, etc).

Ideas? The curb ground off a 2 inch long piece of the wheel lip...could that cause the slight shimmy?

TIA

Pat

Sounds like you need to get wheel balanced, that's a decent chunk to have lost from the rim, sounds like its out of balance now. Same effect as knocking off a wheel weight.

You could have bent your wheel. My wife has done that twice just from hitting potholes! It felt like a badly unbalanced wheel.

Okay thanks. I'll get it checked. The alignment wasn't off much at all.

Wheel is definitely bent. Know someone that has a set of the same wheels...free. Thanks for the input, and happy new.

There are shops that can repair bent wheels for $100-$150. Depending on how bent the wheel is.

With that much of the rim missing I would say balance the wheel and you should be ok. If there wasn't any rim missing I would say that you damaged the bearings... so if the vibration/shimmy doesn't go away then I would get that checked out.
Good luck.
