Default 351W Swap

I was going to completly redo my 302 but have been thinking about doing a 351. I have two 351W in my barn, one has been left outside for a few years the mach 1 still inside, and the other engine is complete and been inside still in my other mach 1. I am just out for opinions and what you should i should do with the one you chose. i am open to all opinions and yeah i will be restoring those cars later in life, but plan on 400+ ci. engines for those. greatly appreciate any opinions! thanks!

351W?

Two things..

Space..

and Space.

the 281 looks like it has a thyroid problem in that compartment as is, so.. a 351W would be a challenge. Do it if your feeling ambitious. You might have to make frame/axel adjustments and reinforcements though.

im pretty sure foxes only need new engine mounts and shocks, dont know how it is for yours though. Im pretty sure it will fit though, just some minor fabrication and a new front suspension, motor mounts, etc

true... im just sorting out if it would be worth the trouble... a built 351 vs. a built 302 prob. bored .30 over.. with the 302 i would have room for a turbo/s/c 351 prob not... im really just out to get a lot of opinion either way i go it can be done, i would really like to just pick up a cast 302 block so i can build it on the side... if anyones got one pm, just looking for a block, used pref. thanks for the info guys

well honestly, i would say either stroke the 302 to a 347 or bore it to a 306. You wont be disappointed with the results. Thats the most practical thing to do plus it would be awesome. thats just my 2 cents

Flathead or knucklehead pistons. I got flatheads, and man oh man, they're nice.

yes boring is good, and there is a noticeable diffrence but the bore dosent do much good without a cam. its a perfect combanation.id stick with the 302 and drop a 347 stroker kit in it.......if u want to spend the time and cost for the 351 ....then go ahead. but i think 302 is the best all around.

actually no, the 351w ina fox is almost a direct bolt up except for the oil pan, and the dizzy and a few other small things. its basically a 302 w/ a taller deck height. so it will fit in the sn95 platform pretty well, the u will need a new hood though and if u plan on building up the motor plan on building up the tranny, cause chances are it will break. so good luck
