Default NEED HELP!!! 1998 or 2001

ok well i was supposed to get a 2001 cobra yesterday, but the deal fell through. It was a black on black vert for 16,500. IT was a great deal, but anyway to my problem.

I cant decide weither i want a 1998 cobra or a 2001 cobra. I mean they both have the 4V 4.6 liter engine.

Which one is faster stock? I know the 1998 has 305hp and 2001 has 320hp.

I mean i look at the 98 and i see all these parts that are available for it performance and suspension wise because it doesnt have an irs. Also i can find a s/c 98 for less than a stock 2001. The things i dont like about the 98 are that the front bumper to me isnt so attractive, but i can get a new front bumper like the cobra r for very cheap and the fact that a 98 just isnt known as a killer like the 99-04

I like the 2001, because i love thaat body style and the 2001 just looks bad ***, its very fast stock, there are alot of available parts for a decent price. I like the actual ride of the irs, its a newer car, just the fact that u can be like "yea i got a 2001 cobra... what u got". But then i dont like the price for the car, the fact that the irs has so little parts.

I dunno i guess im just looking for some good and bad things about each year to help make my decision. And i talk about money like its a big issue but its really not, i have the money for the cars. What im really lookin for is a bad *** car that looks bad *** drives bad *** and is just an all around bad *** car

i was also thinkin about a 98 saleen, but thats the choice if i cant make up my mind. I know this all sounds jumbled but i really dont know what to do, the more cars i look at the harder it is to make up my mind.

I appreciate everyones imput.

2001 there is no competition, unless ur like me and like the sn95 body over the new edge, but if u just want a cobra go 2001

98's = less weight. And aluminum block. The 305-320 is easily made up.

I personally prefer the sn95 cobra styling.

i dunno, i love the sn95 body style, and with the cobra r front bumper, hood, steeda wing, lowered 1.5 and the style bar, the car is beautiful. My whole thing is i can buy the sn95 cobra s/c'd for less than a 2001.

Any more input. So that are stock 1/4 times for both of them

choices choices choices... i Think im just gonna keep lookin at cars and prices and when it comes down to it ill make the decision then. But dont stop the advice, all the input i can get on these cars will help.

What kind of 1/4 mile times to the 98 cobra, 01 cobra and 03 cobra run?

Also, the 98 4.6 can the heads from an 01 go on it and what about the s/c from the 03 can it go on the 98 also??

alright, the 2001 cobra will make more power and comes with slightly better internals (for high hp your gonna have upgrade either) stock. Idk if the 98 would be a coupe or vert but 1) the 2001 will probably be in better shape asthetically and mechanically and 2) the 2001 recieved some body stiffening as a vert from factory. But if your more of a cruise kind of guy, there are many morestereo/comfort features in the 2001, as well as the IRS offering a better comfort ride or corning abilities.
The 98 on the other hand comes with a VERY strong block (either year, its aluminum) that can hold a lot of hp, and the b-series heads on the block outflow the 99-01 c-series tumbleports by a bit. You can find parts for the solid axle a little easier and cheaper than trying to upgrade the IRS. The 2001 also offers a mechanically stronger transmission (T-3650, although throw-out bearings and synchrosseem to fail on these transmissions) than the T-45 found in the 98. Car an Driver drove the 2001 cobra to a 14.1 quarter mile time, but people have said they've dipped as low as 13.5, im sure the 98 cobra is maybe 2-3 tenths slower in the quarter mile, not sure of it's exact time though; butfor any vert, estimate a tenth or two less to compensate for its weight

The 03 runs high 12's stock with a good driver, not sure of the supercharger but all the heads are interchangable

changing the COP system to a 98 is possible (idk if its a splice or whole computer) and would work but is not worth the money to change it over
