X pipe, H pipe, pro chameber
I always compare the two this way. The X-pipe is more of an exotic sound (not necessarily raspy) and the H-pipe retains the classic "Mustang Muscle" sound. An X-pipe changes the sound. I had the X-pipe and never really liked the exotic sound. As far as being raspy, that is also a byproduct of the catback you select. Off-road X-pipes can sound raspy, but IMO it is more the catback that can create the raspy sound. I had a Magnaflow catted X-pipe with a Magnaflow catback. That particular setupwasraspy/harsh sounding and had a bad drone between 1800-2100 rpms. I switched to a Steeda catback and although the "exotic" sound remained, there was no noticeable raspy sound. Very different from the Magnaflow catback. If I were to buy an exhaust today, I'd probably go with the MRT catted H-pipe with the Steeda catback. If I wanted a louder sound I'd select the Stinger catback or the SLP Loudmouth II. JMO.
google or youtube or something just find out which sounds the best in your eyes. Because from the sound of it you haven't really done any research on them. IMO you better before your stuck with something you hate or can't get used to. You also have to think in the future, are you planning on getting headers??? Because if you are prepare to buy a new mid pipe unless you get them now with everything else.
Even on a Cobra, the difference in power gains between the two are going to be very minimal (less than 5RWHP, if that). With the X pipe, you'll pick up a little more power in the higher RPM range. With the H pipe, you'll pick up a little more TQ in the lower RPM range.
The X will definitely give you more of an "exotic" sounding car. Like CobraBob says, the amount "rasp" is also dependant on the Cat Back. But most of the time, there will be rasp with an X pipe. The H pipe will havethe "classic"low toned, aggressive rumble that holds together well.
