Default Transmission fluid?

Hi everyone, I'm confused as to what kind of tranny fluid I need. I have a 1998 Cobra that has the T-45 5-speed tranny in it and I would like to go synthetic. In my Haynes Repair manual it says it's recommended to go with Mercon automatic transmission fluid. Does that mean I need to get the Max ATF (royal purple) or because I've read some threads, some have gone with the Synchromax. It says the synchromax is for manual transmissions so I'm just really confused here. Also it says the capacity is 6.6 pints so 3.3 quarts is correct right?Basically what I'm asking is:1) What kind of transmission fluid should I go with from royal purple?2) Is 3.3 quarts the correct amount of fluid?

3.3qts is correct, some go a little bit less to help with easment of shifting. I need to let a little out of mine as well. I used Mobil 1 synthetic, so I'm unsure what you need for Royal Purple. I was told to stay away from that stuff for the tranny's. I went with Mercon V, Mobil changed their fluids about year ago and combined a few diff. old fluids together. You can use the Mobil 1 ATF for Dextron II, III, Mercon, Mercon V.

Yeah I see it on mobil1's website. The Mobil 1 Sythetic ATF for Dexron III, Dexron IIIE, Dexron III-H, Mercon, Mercon V looks to be exactly the match for our trannys. And all my local auto parts stores don't carry royal purple tranny fluids so I should be able to get mobil1. I'm actually gonna go to national auto stores now to get it.

I am that buddy, lol. I noticed a good difference w/ the Redline D4 ATF but I think if you go w/ any synthetic fluid you'll see a huge difference in the smoothness of your shifts and stuff...
