I have owned a 97 cobra and a 98 gt.. they both had the problem with girnding but it didn't affect anything and I have talked to a bunch of people and that's normal.. As far as you having to pull on the shifter to get it into gear,, that is most likely your clutch not disengaging.. My brother has a 01 cobra and you literally have to force it into and out of gear and we brought it to the tranny shop and that's what they said the problem was..

Haha, funny that this topic just popped back up. I was driving my GT this morning and it was mostly warmed up, not quite temp just yet, but within about 20 degrees, anyway, I run it out a little turning onto the main road, not even that much, shift it into second and run it out a little (probably only to 3.5-4k), then shift somewhat quickly, not even slamming it, into 3rd and it grinds like someone had dropped a screwdriver in it. I let off and tried to push it back in and it did it again. I despise the T-45.

For you guys w/ Cobra T-45, how many have rebuilt the T-45...is it better after as far as grinding? i have 102K mi on my 97 Cobra and it grinds in 1-2 shift and 3-4 shift. I an in San Diego in CA where it never gets below freezing...most mornings are 55deg or above...so im pretty sure its mt T-45 synchros going out...[:@]

Double clutching is only allowing the input shaft to slow down enough for it to mesh with the gear. Basically your giving it that extra time as if you shifted it like a grandma. You have syncronized gears so double clutching makes no difference other than give you that extra 2 seconds for the input shaft to slow down. Double clutching is for trannys that have no syncros which aid in aligning and meshing the gears with ease and actully they are suppose to do it automatically with clutch plates. If your syncros are worn out, then yes double clutching will allow you to shift into that gear that you are locked out of!
Just shift slower in colder temps. Not good to run your car hard when it's cold out. Yeah, yeah I run late in the morning too, so I know how it is...lol
Also I found that my trans grinded a little after I put synthetic oil in it! I drained it and put regular back in there and no more grinding!!! 3.3qts. for that T-45
