Default hood question

im sure i could have posted this in any of the 4.6 sections, but this is the most specific i guess. anyway, my buddy has a 99 cobra, with a blower pushing around 600bhp. he's having engine heat issues causing his (stock) hood to get hot, and (i dont remember which it was he said) but its either causing it to burn/melt a little on the underside, or warp from the heat.

he's hooked on getting a terminator hood so it can extract heat through the functional vents, but i would rather see him get something like a cobra R hood, as it would look much sleeker. now my question is, on practicality, which one would be better for the cars heat situation? the terminator hood that extracts the heat, or a hood with a higher rise that keeps it farther away from the engine? i would really have to convince him that the cobra R hood would be better, if it is, so if you think it is, id like some good reasons as opposed to going with a terminator hood.

i mean this is primarly about the overheating issue rather than looks. i would rather see him get the cobra R hood over a terminator hood for looks, but we both would want him to get it primarly for functionality first.

Although my personal opinion is that the heat extractor hood would be the way to go...I think that he might want to look into getting a carbon fiber hood no matter what style he gets. Why? Well, ever ridden a crotch-rocket with a carbon fiber exhaust? You can pretty much grab the canister after riding it all day and never get burned, and that's exhaust temps. And you should still be able to paint the top of the hood if you wanted and just leave the underside carbon fiber exposed to the heat. Of course if you went that route, just make sure the resin/epxoy used to cover the hood is of good quality because although most epoxy hardens under high heat, a cheap epoxy will soften. Even though that won't affect the carbon fiber it probably would cause the resin/epoxy to yellow. Just my .02cents

A heat extractor hood will be more benefitial for reducing temps than a high rise hood. I don't car if the extractor hood is only 1" from the engine, it will still move more air and keep under the hood temps much cooler than even a 4" cowl that stands 3" higher than the engine.
