I was reading a few posts and saw where the 99's were recalled for being underpowered? I thought these cars came with 320 hp? (290 at the wheels?) If this was true, what caused the power loss? Just curious in case I want to buy one and I want to know my facts.

 

99's without fix (recall) came with 305hp instead of the 320hp. there is no way they put 290rwhp. my 01 cobra stock put 277rwhp and that was the correct 320hp. so the 99's prolly layed ~265ish rwhp stock.

i believe the problem was in the intake, throttle body, and exhaust

 

The 99's were underpowered from the factory. The recall, known as "the fix", replaced the intake manifold, flashed the ECM, put a different idler pulley on and replaced the cat-back. To know if you have the fix or not you can look at the intake manifold and on the front driver's side you should have a green or yellow dot. You can also check by using the VIN and seeing if there are any outstanding recalls. 99.99999% of the '99 Cobras I've seen has had the fix.
