racing on a budget

RE: racing on a budget
Here is another post off the 428 cj forum
Just FYI, Try and find an 89-92 as the 93's have cast (Hypereutectic) pistons, the others are forged. A BIG plus on using a Fox mustang is that almost everything you buy is scienced out already and the rear suspension works well without alot of work. Running 11's with an early mustang usually requires stiffer leaf springs and Cal-Trac's, getting the car to transfer weight takes some front end work and shocks. Throw a set of gears in a fox body car and your good to go initially.....All it takes to run low 12's in fox 5 spd car is gears, tires, and a set of AFR 185's.......... Just my opinion ( I own a bunch of early cars and an 86,93,96,and a 97 stang) John

RE: racing on a budget
heres another
If it`s a Mustang 5.0, the crank is a cast iron lightweight unit (missing 2 counterweights compared to the older pre 80-81 302`s), with a 1 piece rear main seal. These light cranks are the 50 ounce imbalance, the older cranks were 28 oz. Rods are forged with 5/16`s bolts. Pistons are forged until 92 or 93, have a shallow dish, and thinner metric ring lands.
