Hey guys my name is jerry and i just recently bought a 99 svt cobra from a friend and it had only 40000 on it, i do want to start modding it

I used to drive a 02 grand prix gtp that was highly modded and well due to the recall on the valve cover gasket my car burned and insurance considered it totaled, but anyways, just wondering the difference between to 99-01 and 03/04's, i know 03/04 have irs and supercharger and a different block and rear bumper and also the 6spd tranny anything else different between those years?

some mods i have in mind as of right know ad high lift cams set, ported cobra heads, full bassani exhaust and cai, then future i either want to go kb or tt

The 03-04's also have different side skirts a different hood, painted mirrors, different seats, different gauges, different spring rates in all four corner. It really is a different animal

Also the 99-01 does have an IRS, before you even start doing power mods replace all of the rubber bushings with poly ones something wise to do, It helps cut down on wheel hop and makes the rear handle better. Some people may blow this off but in my opinion its almost essential.

I would do cams last if at all, the 99 Cobras already have a good powerband. I would start with set of 4.10 gears, than get full exhaust with Longtube headers and a tune. That should be enough to get you going pretty quickly

lol you are talking about 99/01 and 03/04 as if there is minimal changes.... 03/04 is a totally different beast than a 99...but i agree, strengthen up that IRS then do full exhaust, gears, and a tune

I might even suggest 4.30 gears.. the 4v's love those gears..

I don't know if i'd recommend cams on these cars.. typically the cost outweighs the gains.

I would just do: Suspension (especially with the weak IRS in the car), gears, exhaust and intake until you're ready for your power adder... unless you plan on staying the N/A route...

Welcome aboard! Everyone above me said pretty much what I wanted to say and you seem to know what you want and know what to buy.

thank you for yours guys input, yes i know the 03/04's are a dif beast my dad has one i just didnt know what the diffrence was between those years, only reason i want the cams is for the idle, def didnt know about the irs, will be a thing ill do for the suspension then, and yes i do know what i want and what it is i want i spent 3 years modding the hell out of my turbo grand prix but i got bored of the fwd, def love this site as well a lot of helpful info

as for exhaust i planned on getting mid lenght headers so itll be a better idea to go with long tube? and also about the gears anyone have any idead how much that would be to install?

I would do longtubes. Either kooks or American Racing (ARH). I've seen gear install cost anywhere from $150-$220.

Welcome, & good luck with the SVT Cobra...To change the cams for a little rumble just not worth it! ....I would go with 3.73, 3.90 or 4.10's max! ...all depends on how much and what type of driving. I've seen gear install be as much as $300-400...make sure you buy an install kit (new bearings)...

all what they said you got a 99 which is pretty good check if the car went in for the work due to the recall in 99 of AUG. you can easily make 300 to the wheels pretty easy with just CAI and a nice flowing exhuast and good tune but i would do suspension first that is what i did it feels so right now no crappy body roll and shimmy at high speed and i opted for the 3.73 gears over the 3.27 gears which are stock they will help you get in your power band quick but you can allways go higher.
welcome to the forums man bunch of smart people in here willing to help you out BTW you have a question you can read through past threads you will see how common alot of your questions might be and you wont have to wait, some are allready answered good luck with your new money pit :P J/K
