Right and wrong. The brace will NOT effect the way your IRS handles. All the brace does, is reinforce the differential housing, actually giving it more structural strength so it does not bend, twist and break.
The bushings is what really makes a difference with the way the IRS responds to the road.

Wow. Some people in here are dumb. IRS is meant for better handling and not drag racing and it does the job well. Also Ford did not cheap out with the IRS as it is actually more expensive than a straight axle.

The IRS does suck in the Cobra.. for drag racing and course racing. Ford for not much more could've really reinforced it a lot better.
But, Ford scrapped the IRS in the Shelby for (2) reasons... weight and cost. The IRS would've added another 100lbs or so, and the cost would've bumped it up by a couple grand.

xxkazp3rxx I agree the irs sucks.
I think most people on this forum are 20 years old live at home with mommy and daddy and have owned 1 mustang gt and think they know all about mustangs.
I have owned over 20 mustangs, most of them very rare.99.9% of the 18 year old posters on this forum will never drive or own some of the mustang I have owned or still own.
I own a small shop and do all my own work. Unlike most here that take it down to shops like mine to have lower control arms and spring put in.
"Wow. Some people in here are dumb. IRS is meant for better handling."
You are correct you are stupid for say that! I beat you have never owned one. LOL
Irs needs big $$ put in it to make it work. I give it to ford for tryin but they fell short on making the IRS what it could have been.
My 03 would be bad *** if it only had a 9"

cost yes . 100lbs more?? This is not always as it seems. Yes the car would weigh 100 lbs more.
But sprung weight for the irs vs the unsprung weight of a whole solid rear end?

Limp - to be honest im confused.. I am not sure whether you are agreeing or disagreeing with me?
We both seem to agree that IRS would've raised the price on the Shelby Cobra... and I don't know if you have ever done the swap, but I have seen 2003/2004 Cobras have a SRA swap (built SRA) and it weighs close to 100lbs lighter..
For the record: I have owned a 05' V6, 04' GT, 03' Cobra and my 03' Mach 1 -- all which were modified except the V6... with decent modifications.
And i have driven a Cobra with: Stock IRS (Mine), fully modded with level 5 halfshafts and a built 31 spline SRA (8.8 rear end)
I am just confused by that post...

When talking about how the suspension it self would handle 100lbs more. It is worse to have more unsprung weight than sprung weight. When tuning suspension. the solid would have more weight under the springs than a irs.
this goes back to motocross. They found out in the early 90s that turning the forks up side down means that the weight of the springs ,oil, valving, housing etc.. would now be above the springs there fore less unsprung weight= better handling. The lighter everything below the springs the better. Not sure if 100 lbs would really matter in our cars unless you are on a pro level. But that is why all motorcycle race bikes now sport upside down forks.
I just wish ford would have put a 8.8 in the cobra or at least made the irs handle better.
