Default need some brake help please

I was just replacing the pads today and the front pads went on just fine but the rear just fought me every step of the way.

I got the tool to compress the pistons, they just didnt seem like they wanted to compress all the way, it was a really tight fit once i finially got them on and bled them.

The rear passenger side just wouldnt disengage by the time I went for a short drive and came back they were so hot they were smoking.

The rear drivers side just made a bunch of noise but wasnt nearly as hot as the other side.

I'm going to give it another shot tommorow, could these calipers be shot? I had no problems before i took them off so i dont think there is anything wrong with them. I would appreciate any insight.

which tool did you use to compress the pistons? i hope you used the speciality tool..

do you see the little notches on the piston, your supposed to twist them clockwise while you push them in. 1/4 turn... push... 1/4 turn... push.. 1/4 turn (it takes like 15 min each side.. and your PISSED by the time your done)

if you forces them in...., you probably broke the calipers.

I went to autozone and rented the tool that has the 2 pegs that go into the notches in the piston and twisted it in. I didnt spend 15 minutes on it but i was pissed so i at least got half of it right.

I'm about to get to work on it again hopefully i'll figure it out.

one thing i noticed is the old pads have these flimsy looking metal clips on the sides and the new pads dont, do you know anything about that?

thanks for the help guys, what happened was that I wasnt using the tool correctly. I thought you just tighten it down and screw that bitch on there, I didnt realize you have to tighten it up to compress it then loosen it, screw the piston in and repeat.

Also there is a little peg on the brake pad that i didnt have fitted in the notch on the piston. My last problem was that I accidently bent the dust cover plate into the rotor and didn't realize it.

Everything is all back together. I also had to replace the wheel hub and fuel pressure regulator. I'm ready to make my trip to maine to get a job now, wahoo.

this happened to me once,,,i had to get a real tool on it...the good tool sits inside of caliper and clamps tight and you can keep adjusting it so it stays tight like a c-clamp than you can turn the pistons in...the brake pad has a bump on it that must sit in the piston...thier is no need to open bleeder ,but parking brake could be a problem if its rusted up..the new pads should fit easy..if not try again with screwing in the pistons
