99 Cobra, after driving and up to operating temp. Ill notice a weird noise comming from the engine area(sounds like its in the dash kinda.). Not really loud, but loud enough to get on my nerves. Its kind of a rattling noise. When I turn the car off the noise will continue for a few seconds and slow down before stopping. I really have no idea of how to explain it so I may get a video clip. The weird part is if I pop the hood and try to hear it I cant, only can hear it from inside the car.

 

Maybe your fans? When the engine is turned off, the fans should be about the only thing that will move a couple of seconds after you shut off the ignition...

 

hmm...Ill look but I dont think thats it...I was thinking like maybe a collapsed lifter or loose rocker, but I dunno if they will move for a few seconds after shut off. Its like its slowing down with the engine.

 

ok so I listened under the hood and had someone cut the car off, its comming from around the drivers side valve cover seems to be behind it somewhere....any ideas?

 

It was the egr solenoid.....

 

Glad you found the problem. How did you narrow it down to that?

 

Pulled it in the garage where I could really hear it good,,, placed my hand over the solenoid and had someone shut it off. Could feel it vibrating when making the noise. Once I knew that was it it was easier to tell wherre it was comming from lol.

 

i actually have the same noise but mine sounds more like a fan on mine...what was wrong with the solenoid...did you just replace it
