found a 97 cobra
I found a guy that might want to trade his 97 cobra for my 90lx 5.0.
I have a few questions:
do the 96-98 cobras have irs?
I think i read the claimed power is 305hp?
5 or 6 speed.
what are you guys running in the 1/8th or 1/4 mile?
I drag my current 5.0 every chance i get a the local track, and i will do the same if i trade for the cobra.

The 97 has 170,000 miles... thats the biggest concern, plus im sure a rebuild, and having heads rebuilt on a 4.6 cobra will be quite a bill compared to doing the same to a 5.0
I would probably do it if, it was a 99up cobra and less miles, there seems to be more aftermarket support for the later years 99 up, from the short time i have been researching it. Am i rite about that?

I have a 97, bought it with 142k, it spun a rod bearing at 143k, machine shop wanted 5500.00 to rebuild it... I needed to have the car running so I picked up a used 4.6 4 valve from MPS Auto Salvage for 2500.00... car is running again but I'll tell ya - the 4.6 4 valve of that generation is a great motor, but parts are very expensive and some machine shops have no idea how to work on them or don't want to work on them. Made me wish I had a 5.0 or a later model 4.6 sohc. Love the power of the 4 valve, but it really is an expensive motor to rebuild. I have the original block (teksid) and crank (forged) and the block is in excellent condition, you can still see the crosshatch in the cylinders, but the crank needs to be turned. I'm thinking about either rebuilding the bottom end slowly (makes it affordable when you don't have to buy everything at once) or selling the motor in pieces and using the cash for other mods on the car. My point - think long and hard about buying a car with that many miles on it that will likely need an engine rebuild or replacement soon.
