stroker kit
I have a 01 cobra with a full exhaust and im just trying to find out as much info as i can about diff. options for some mods to do. I want to SC it with a KB but im also looking into a stroker kit. What exactly goes into it and what are the main benefits that can be recieved by it/ HP increase???I don't really know to much about mods that are done inside the engine which is why i am asking. Also a stroker kit isnt the same as a "built engine" is it? & will it help compliment a SC when i do get one??? any info is greatly appreciated THX..
I will do my best to answer this since you seem to be going in many directions here.
First off, you can use a SC with almost any setup. Custom combinations will require dyno tuning- so keep that in mind for your budget.
Secondly, the basis of the stroker kit is the crankshaft with a longer stroke. Short rods, and pistons are often included as well. The main benefit is from the longer throws of the crank with yield more leverage; and thus, produce more torque.
Next, a 'built' engine is a term that's thrown around at a lot of car shows and race tracks and doesn't have an exact meaning. In general, it means that the engine has been modified from factory specs. to produce more power- typically this means the the entire bottom end has been replaced and the heads have been ported with largers valves, etc., larger cam(s) and a performance intake manifold. It does not necessarily imply a blueprinted engine that been done to very strict tolerances.
Finally, a SC and a stroker engine will compliment each other fine. Then again, a SC will compliment any engine to be honest. Keep in mind that longer stroke will increase the overall compression ratio; therefore possibly limiting how much boost you can run.
My personal advice- unless you have plenty of money to do the entire build at once, I would choose either option. A SC for the street is a great way to make reliable power, and there are many kits ready to bolt on. The stroker option will take more time and may not produce as much power.

My 03 Cobra has the Modular Boss 5.0 block with full 4.6 stroker kit along with KB 2.8, heads, cams ect. On 18 pounds on 93 octane produces 705 rwhp. Its a nice setup but is expensive. Proper tuning also has alot to do with it.
mines fully built from crank up, got lower compression so i could boost it. so the lower the compression the more boost you can push, thats why diesel trucks can run on 60psi because they dont run on compression, the stroker kit shouldnt run you much, maybe about 4,000 installed
