Default 1996 cobra MPG?

I have owned a 1996 Cobra since 1999. This car has been my sole vehicle for much of its life. I have strived to keep it looking good and in great running shape. The last few years my car been able to live the good life of a garage kept car, and gets to take a winter vacation. This summer however I am noticing a significant drop in fuel economy. I know this isn't the thing most people think of when driving a Cobra, but I wanna know what is behind it.

My car has 110,000 miles on it, but still runs very well. Typically I would get about 300 miles to a tank of gas, which was in the 21-25 MPG range. Right now I am sitting at half way between 1/2 - 1/4 tank left and the trip meter is showing 109. So I am going to get no where near 300 miles out of this tank of gas.

I am going to put a new air filter in today and see if that helps at all. Anyone else have an idea?

It could be the air filter, fuel filter, or even your plugs and wires are worn down and not burning as well as they use to. Also check your tires for proper pressure. I, like you, always watch my MPG and get made fun of for it - "If you drive a Mustang and worry about gas your driving the wrong car". That is crap. You can have a Mustang and get good gas mileage.

Thanks guys, good to know I'm not the only one with the fuel mileage issue. I saw the fuel filter for 15 bucks so that maybe a pretty easy fix too. The plugs and wires were changed last year, so I really don't think it is them. I'll post back my findings after the air/fuel filter change. Sad to say another Summer is almost gone, and its almost time for the Mustang to head back into the garage for the winter.
