Default which gears for a 96 Cobra?

Hi guys

i soon will change my gears when i buy a 96 Cobra. Some people told me i shall go with 4.30! Never saw them! Do they exist? What's best for making a fast & get normal MPG making Cobra?

My car shall (as soon as possible) have less than 5 seconds for 0-60 and i will hit 160-180MPH! So what's best choice?? Because i will not change car because of wrong decission.

3.73 (it's installed, i think)
4.10
4.30 (if this exist)

Thanks for help!

if you have 3.73's installed then leave them alone unless you want to go to 4.30's.. and yes 4.30's exist. Stock is 3.27. I would go 4.10's if it is still stock. You wont see much of a difference between the 3.73's and 4.10's unless your really at the strip alot. I am going 3.73's but its my personal preference for the amount of driving I do. And gears lower your top end... not to mention your transmission gearing kind of limits you in top end to begin with. You run out of ability to rev any further more then running out of power in 4th.

I thought I may add something to the discussion... I would go with the 3.73s unless you are going to run slicks at the track and leave the car as a 1/4 mile dragster. I figure (from experience) that even with the stock horse power, anything lower then that will just lead to excessive wheel spin, running through the gears faster, and lead to bad gas milage. If you want to put more power to the ground, I suggest adding more horse power. There are a lot of options for doing that and it can be a lot of fun.

Good luck!

4.10 1/8 mile- 1/4 mile w/ NO big boy toys on motor

3.73 1/4 mile w/big boy toys on motor

4.30 1/8 mile- and I hope you don't like to go over 80 on the highway with those gears cause you will eat some GAS.

BIG BOY TOYS- AKA. Superchargers, Turbos, Heavy NOS shot 250+ dual stage, machined motor.

Everyone: just keep buying those slow GT’s and I’ll keep smokin’ them.
PEACE.
