Help - Exhaust Drone 10/10 - BBK Varitune with H-Pipe
Ive created a monster. On my 2015 mustang GT I originally purchased an H-pipe to remove the stock resonator with no change to exhaust note. After a lot of research I thought I found the solution and purchased the BBK Varitune exhaust. It had the desired affect and has that 60's low growl muscle car sound. After driving it around for a bit and loving the sound we went away for a long weekend and at highway driving, around 2000 rpm, the monster emerged. The drone was unbearable to the point we both had a headache after about 10 mins.
Anyone have a solution without swapping to much and losing the beautiful sound at low speeds. Ive read some posts where people welded a short piece of pipe off the existing muffler that is capped at the end and it is supposed to remove the drone by reflecting the sound back. I hate to butcher my exhaust but i cannot travel with that drone.
Has anyone tried this on a 2015? Can you provide pics?
Thanks for any help.

I went with a similar setup on mine. H pipe, flowmaster outlaws. Sounds great but has a ton of drone. I saw a guy put a set of resonators on this setup and it took out a lot of the bite and drone you may look into those. Mine is pretty bad right now, but it is a hot rod.

I was having some drone especially at about 1700-2000 rpm going uphills.. I only have axlebacks on mine. I got this covercraft pocket pod and installed it and my drone is now completely gone.... simply amazing..dual purpose. Drone control and extra storage.

Count me in the BBK is garbage crowd. I had a midpipe for my 2002 from BBK that looked like a blind one-armed monkey did the welding. If a bicycle frame had welds like the midpipe had, I would have refused to ride it.

The resonator is what takes away the drone in the first place. It is impossible to reproduce the old sound of older Mustangs because the mufflers are located at the tail of the car instead of in front of the axles. I would go to a Borla system where you can mix and match mufflers with or without the resonator. I am running the touring tune without the resonator and while it doesn't drone, it is a bit more raspy than I like and so I am going to add back their resonator and see what happens.
