Got My First Speeding Ticket- Tips?
I've beat the last 5 speeding tickets I've received. Here's how you do it. Contact the prosecutor for the district that you received the ticket and request a discovery package. (send a copy of this letter to the police station also) In this discovery package request the calabration certificates of all the radar equipment used at the police station. Also request a copy of the daily calabration log that each officer is supposed to fill out. The law is that the radar must be calabrated once a year by an outside contractor to insure the equipment is working properly. It's just easier for the police to lose a ticket ever so often then it is for them to send the radars out. You wont receive a reply to your request because the radar will be out of date. Appear in court and have the ticket thrown out because you were denied a right to a fair trial by not receiving the discovery package. Trust me I've used this defense and it works. EVER TIME! If you dont believe me just do an internet search on how to beat a radar issued speeding ticket and see what advice they give you.
And yes I do want to avoid the lawyer- since I can't really afford the ticket I doubt I'll be able to afford a lawyer either haha
I think I actually might try this- the court date is next week so do I just show up to court and tell the judge that I haven't gotten any of this information yet and so I don't have a fair trial?

true, i forgot about all the **** state laws most others have to deal with.
When I got my first ticket, I was told that if I went to traffic school, I wouldn't get any points and my insurance rates would stay the same. Unfortunately, I got another one six months later and this time I had to go to court. Since I and the other people that got traffic tickets got there early, the judge was nice enough to reduce the fines. The best thing to do is get there early and plead no-contest. You'll probably won't have to pay alot and you can avoid all the hassles of hiring a lawyer.
Before your trial. The prosecutor will meet with you and offer a reduced sentance or probation before judgement. (PBJ means you'll admit you were speeding, you'll pay a huge fine but you wont get points on your driving record.) When the prosecutor meets with you, request your discover package then. He'll give you some attitude about it but thats his job. Then when you go before the judge he'll ask for a postponement because of your request. You'll have to go to court a 2nd time but you'll never receive the discovery package and they'll heve to throw the case out then. You just have to be willing to fight it out in court. your doing the same thing you'll be paying a lawyer 500 to 1000 bucks to do. PM me and i'll get your E-mail and send you a copy of the written request I use for the package. All you'll have to do is put in the correct information for your ticket and county etc.
I didnt read through all posts cause this site is kinda slow to download. But if money is your reason to go to court (since you said you cant afford it), then you are just wasting your time. You will have to pay the ticket and court costs associated with it. Only reason to show up in court would be to fight it and not get points on your license. It wont get you out of paying for it.
All the lawyer stuff doesn't work in California with speeding tickets. For every 100 people that come to court, probably 10% get out of their ticket for various reasons. It's rare to be found not guilty in any moving violation.

I don't have to respond to your request for discovery unless it's done properly through the court. The stuff that is requested is stuff I bring with every time anyways. No biggie.
In California the radar unit and tuning forks are done every 36 months by law. We do it every 30 months.
Radar is checked for accuracy twice a shift, begining and end.
Annual recertification for how to operate the Radar for every officer.
If you get some retarded tiny little agency, often times the officers have no idea on how the radar stuff even works and never been certified. Larger agencies usually have their stuff together.
