Got My First Speeding Ticket- Tips?
nope.. he was a big loser(meth/speed).. I was really worried about him.. he got a girlfriend(now wife) who straightened him out though.. he is doing really well now and I no longer worry.. funny thing is the biggest loser/youngest kid in my family bought a house before the rest of us (4 bros/sisters).. really shocked us.. (again, his wife's doing)
don't do drugs.. and if you do.. be smooth
his smoothness must also be what landed him some hotties too.. he always dated the hottest girls.. crazy.. i am the exact opposite of him in every way
play it safe, get in trouble any time i step out of line.. and the hotties are few and far between...
just thought i'd share a bit of myself with s/s.. makes me feel good.. like.... DA correctin'

Lol and you make fun of me? Your brother sounds like he used to be a fatty loser
Well I went to court today. The Police Deptartment was able to provide me with those records unfortunately so that defense was out the window. The judge more or less cut me a deal saying I had a clean record and that if I pled guilty the ticket would only cost me $150 ($75 for the ticket, $75 for court fees which is bull****,) and only 2 points on my license instead of 4 so I took it. I kinda wish I continued it on and fought it but I couldn't miss another day of classes.
Oh well, you live and learn- I guess I won't get caught next time

I have a very difficult time comprehending why someone would give up a "get out of jail free" card for a crap shoot. If you had already used your school option then I could see fighting it, otherwise, you're looking at a worst case scenario of losing, which you did.
A lawyer in most speeding cases will get you nothing more than a lowered judgement and you will STILL get points on your record. Fighting the ticket means you give up your option for traffic school for that offense. In both scenarios you will get points and your insurance will go up.
Your odds in this case (66% chance you will lose or a 1 in 3 chance you will win) were too low to even consider. Not all states or municipalities are lax on their radar procedures so unless you KNOW they are sloppy, fighting a speeding ticket from radar is just a stupid crap shoot.
If you're not a bad driver, use the "free card" Trust me, your insurance will cost you way more now than school would have. I've had more tickets in my 20 years of driving than most of you have had your license for. 6 of them in Cali (one of the tougher states) and all between the ages of 16 and 24. You are allowed to take driving school in Cali once every 24 months. Do the math, yet, I have never had any points from tickets on my record.
Lawyers are lame, fighting the ticket is usually lame, using your resources is best.

I've never had a single point against my license....had 5-6 tickets at 15+ over. Last one I had the trooper put down that I was an *******, at least what my lawyer told me, simply because I asked to be shown what speed he clocked me at. Then politely told him how convenient it was when he told me he didn't have to show me a thing. Lawyer got me out of that as well. I know when my old man was traveling a lot he had a number to speeding tickets. He's still never set foot in a court room, all 55 years of him, and never had any points. Lawyer > school.
it depends on your insurance co. whether or not his rates will go up... I know for State Farm they don't check your driving record very often (it costs money) so don't mention it to your agent... for example, we had a client with us for a while, found out through the grape vine (angry ex) he had a DUI 8 months earlier, we ran his record and dropped him.. because he was a jerk... but we wouldn't have known otherwise. They check driving records whenever you purchase a car though or sometimes filing a claim will do it.
I fuggin jinxed myself... 76 in a 45 28-701.02(A2) Criminal misdemeanor speeding (it's a class 3).
I'm split between an attorney or not. I have a clean driving record except for an accident 3+ years ago which was both my fault and the other drivers fault (mutual negligence). It is no longer on my driving record but I know a traffic court has access to records going further back than the MVD provides.
Anyways, the judge has the ability to allow driving school (like level 2 in CA) for this type of infraction but he can also go the complete opposite direction and throw the book at me. It's a gamble. So, I'm hoping I can plea it down to just a regular ticket (civil violation) and just take the 3 points on my record with the Prosecutor.
Thoughts??

You need a lawyer, you should shoot for 9 over, if they like your attorney you may still get improper equipment. You can ask the DA if they would agree to you going to driving school and giving you a conditional PJC deffered prosecution type deal. Also volunteer court costs etc, (not like you have a choice). This will depend on your state laws and your DA's offices' policies.

Yep, already ahead of the game in that respect. Free consult with a good traffic lawyer in my area. Says he can normally get it worked to down to a civil ticket and half the maximum penalty to $250. I would still get points on my record but it would be 3 (one ticket) instead of 6 and no record or JT. My insurance will go up by $1K every year for the next 3 years I think, but it beats $2K or more per year and a potential record or worse, JT.
I asked about working it down to a traffic school dismissable citation, most likely not because of the actual speed over. $1,200 flat fee and he takes care of everything including plea, filings and PTC where I have the option of attending. He recommends I do because it looks better and it's pleabargained, I'll be present instead of having to reschedule (be done and over with instead of dragging it out).
The wife is not too happy right now and neither am I but I fugged up so I'm paying the price now. She's really pushing me to sell the stang at this point and while I can understand her feelings, it's the driver (me), not the car that speeds so this could've just as easily happened in a prius as much as a mustang. At least with a prius I could've had a fighting chance (The brakes don't work and the car accelerated on it's own
)
OP, sorry for jacking your thread...
