Default ls guys!

guy from my local forum just got a 99 firehawk. and i'm interested to know how fast it is. i'm assuming it's a deffinate 11 second car with a tire but not sure. it's a 6speed car, stock rear end(i pray for him haha), street tires, bolt ons, livernois ported stock heads, and a cam, i believe he said it's an SI5 cam, if that makes sense? I'm assuming it's an easy 420+whp car. If he ever puts a decent tire on it I'll see if he'll dig race me once i get my longtubes on and up to a 150 shot. I still dont think i'd be able to take him if he can hook and not blow his rear end but it's worth a shot anyways i'd say. so are my hp and e/t estimates correct, or should it be faster/slower?

this is the guys new "cruiser", he has a 3rd gen camaro with 400+ ci motor in it, ran an 11.3@120 last year and has since added a much better trans/converter and went to a 200 shot. the guy has lots of money so i'm sure this new car will have a 9" and some good tread on it before the end of this season.

If it's just ported stock heads, mild intake (maybe like a LS6) and a mild cam, it may not be much over 420 hp at all. Hard to say. I think 11's fore sure with a tire.

With just the addition of long tubes alone, you might get enough power increase to give him a run from a dig. I gained 20 rwhp & 57 rwtq just from the long tubes alone on a 100 shot.

Granted my setup is a bit different than yours, but back when i had 360 rwhp (pre cams) i was a dead even race with my buddy's cammed 2006 GTO which had right around 425 rwhp IIRC...and that was from a roll.

he didn't mention an aftermarket intake, so i'd assume just an ls6 intake. and i'm not sure if the cam is mild or wild lol.

Depends on that cam really. The ported heads and a LS6 cam would be pretty quick, but very mild in comparison to a hotter cam. If its pretty much an LS6 (LS6 intake, ported stock heads, LS6 Cam) it would be a good run with you on the bottle. If he's running a hotter cam like an MS4 or something, then I doubt you'd be able to do much with him IF he manages to hook. He could get away with some slicks for a little while as long as he adds a few rear end supports, cover, etc. Some last forever, some shatter right off the bat, pretty unpredictable.

i just googled the cam and got a couple specs:
231/237 duration .589/.595 lift 112lsa

not sure how that compares to a ls6 cam or if that's mild or not.

That's a very decently-sized (but not quite donkey dick) cam. He should definitely be able to run mid 11s at approaching 120. So he should be able to outrun but not humiliate you (assuming you're going to crack open the bottle).

Thats a middle of the road cam. But it should still put the car in the mid 11's to high 11s.
