Default Too lean

Okay, got the SCT-3 tuner and Ford Racing CAI. Used a canned tune for 87, not much changed. They don't have the Ford CAI so I left it stock. Runs ruff on start up. but levels out after about 30 seconds. Got check engine light that has 2 codes for too lean. I'm changing it to JLT, any other suggestions????

Okay, I changed the canned tune to the JLT CAI. I'm guessin' that it's at least closer to the Ford CAI. Drove it about 2 or 3 miles, and everything seems to be okay. Going to the car show at Anderson Ford tomorrow, so hope I get there and back without throwing a code. Guess I'll call A.M. or Bama Monday, and see what happened to my custom tune. Should have been here by now. First time I tried the tuner, nothing worked, so I unplugged it and plugged it in again, then it seemed to be okay.

From everything I understand, our cars Mass Air Flow sensor is extremly sensitive to changing the housing such as a CAI.

Using the "canned" tune probably only exacerbated the problem by changing timing on the motor.

Your obviously closer to being ok using the JLT CAI tune, by what you describe, but if it were my car I wouldn't run it much without the correct tune.

You really need a tune specific to your CAI.

Okay, got it all straightened out. Called Bama this morning, explained what happened, and they (Zack Savercool) had me the custom tune about 20 minutes later. Took my time, followed the instructions, and had the tune in the car about an hour later. It really runs great. I'm and ol' gizzer, so I put in the 87 street tune. It's about perfect for me. Did get on it a couple of times and could tell the difference in the way it shifted. Maybe someday I'll get adventurous, and try the 91 race tune, maybe.....Thanks everyone for all the support/suggestions.....
