Newbie here: Can a tuner cause emissions test fail?
I know this may be a dumb question, but I wanna know if a tuner can cause you to fail emissions tests. I'm gonna buy the SCT SF3/X3 tuner from AM. I live in California and I wanna know if a custom tune alone can cause you to fail emissions tests. I'd really appreciate some quick replies because I wanna order it whithin the next hours. Thanks.

I plan on getting a JLT CAI next, which requires a tune. My car's still pretty new, but when the time comes for emissions tests I don't wanna remove the CAI, bring it back down to 87 octane, and restore the stock settings. I wanna avoid all that hassle. How can I find out if certain items are CARB exempt?

Well, I emailed AM yesterday and I received an answer from Bama. Here's what they said: You can pass emissions testing while using the Street tune that we program onto the tuner as long as your Mustang is otherwise legal (still has catalytic converters etc..). The octane of fuel should not affect whether you pass or not as the car will be programmed to whichever octane you elect to run on the Street tune.
