Problem shifting into first gear
Hi all. I'm new to this site and hoping someone could help me out.
I have a '95 Mustang with the 5 speed manual transmission.
Even though the clutch is fully depressed (floored), I have noticed recently that it seems so hard to get the car into first gear.
The problem only happens when shifting into first gear.
Could anyone help me out with this problem? Thanks.

Im not a pro on the newer mustangs but i have a few ideas, if it is when ur drving, and ur coming from a stop and puttin it into first, u may wanna wait until ur going slower even if u plan on having the clutch in, and if u dont, good luck replaceing the sincros.
Second, it could be ur sincros....
Third, u clutch cable if it is able to adjust like on my svo ur gonna wanna look into that, plz get back to me and tell me if any of this helps. Good luck.

Thanks for the input. A coworker told me today that it could possibly be the synchro. I'm not much of a mechanic, but I'll look into that.
The clutch on this car is self-adjusting..., but I'll look into that too as you suggested.
This problem only happens when I shift into first gear (from a stop). Otherwise, I do not encounter this problem when shifting into the other gears.
I do not recall if the problem exists when I downshift from second to first gear, since I ususally do not downshift.
By the way, I had the clutch replaced in 1999 at the same time when the dealer replaced the engine crank shaft. (One of the crank shaft bearings was damaged.)
I would say this clutch has only had 40,000 miles on it.

ok, well it must be ur syroncros that or something witht he shift kit or transmission, it mayalso be something in the way of the first gear "area" if u want to take of the leather boot and see if it is clean around there maybe a lub job will help for time being, also a good way to check to see if it is the clutch cable is to see how much "play" you have, play being the amount u can move the clutch up and down without ingauging it. if there is more then a 1 1/2 inches i would check into that as well
