Default AC

this may be a stupid question but, does havin the ac on do anything to the power. because ive heard some people say things about how...some person did this or that w/ the ac on!...like it was a big deal. the belt is always turning the pully so i woulnt think having it on or off would do anything.

well regardless of wether the AC is on or not the compressor still kicks in periodically to circulate AC gases and lubricant. this was pretty much done with all fords to increase the life of compressor parts by keeping the lubricant from staying in 1 low spot in the system when it is not used.

you can notice it kick in if you pay attention. it isn't a big difference but it is noticable

AC's operate on a clutch pulley. when it engages the compressor turns. when it dis engages the pulley still turns but the compressor doesn't

and yes when the compressor kicks in it does drain power. probably 5-10hp

It can drain up to 20 hp from your rear wheels, and it also burns a little more gas when turned on.
