Hey guys i have a 97 and i was wondering how my stock alarm functions? I don't have keyless entry or anything like that but the light does illuminate when ignition is started and i even have a sticker for it on my side window.

 

Its a theft deterant system.. meaning... its pointless. It just makes it look like you have a real alarm so they don't mess with your car.

 

its just a remote lock, the theft i dont think means anything

 

Yeah, its a faux alarm system. The only protection you have is the chip in your key, you can't copy Ford keys because they need a special computer chip or the car won't start... that's why our keys are freakin expensive from the dealer. [:@]

But, honestly I can tell you it works because on 3 occasions, my car has been right next to cars that have been broken into that don't have alarms or deterrants like the theft light. So, people who don't know would probably leave it alone.

 

yep we just got to hope that they dont come reading around the forum

 

Actually all it does is short out the starting mechanism if somebody breaks in your car and tries to hotwire it.
