i raced my friends 1999 jetta and i think i literally put a buslength on him. he had the either 1.8 non turbo or the 2.0. of course i dont have a vert though. if hes the non turbo version, u should take him. those things are slugs

if its a 1.8, i think he's got you. if it's a manual non turbo it still might not be too far behind you if at all because front wheel drive has less driveline loss typically and you have more weight because of the convertable and rims. what transmission do you have
My friend has a 1.8 turbo jetta and can sorta kinda barely walk on my friends civic that's putting 109hp to the wheels.... So they're not that fast. BTW, I pulled 3-4 car lengths up to 60mph on the civic with my Mustang before I got my underdrive pulley. I have yet to race the Jetta, but I'm totally confident I'll take it.

Seperate note, I've never heard of FWD having less drivetrain loss than the RWD cars...... Could be wrong, but I disagree.

transaxles have less driveline to travel through because they combine the differential and transmission into the same thing. they'll typically have about 5% less driveline loss compared to a rear wheel drive. disagree all day, but that's how it is.
