you dont want to get a thermostat that is too cold. i dont remember what the lowest you should go is but i know your engine is designed to run at certain temps so running it too cold could hurt it

No, what's he's saying is that you shouldn't take the air dam off. I put a high flow K&N on my v6 and noticed an increase in MPG (about 2-3 MPG better), and a little extra toe for the kicks. I am not sure about changing the thermostat either, especially if it's your daily driver.

As for the "heat thingy" ... Are you talking about the insulation on the hood?

Well doesn't the increase in airflow increase fuel flow?

couldnt tell you, possibly it was sucking warm air from the engine instead of cold air from the fender,

I actually made a custom "cold air kit" for my car. It really might be closer to a ram air system. I have a total of $5.67 invested, plus the cost of the air filter. I installed a drop in K&N air filter. Next, I cut off about half of the snorkel (rubber piece that attaches to the air box and goes into the fender well). Then, I attached a dryer duct hose to the air snorkel and ran it down into the front of the bumper. I attached an air scoop off of an F-150 upside down there the fog light would be. Then I simply attached the dryer duct hose to the air scoop.

I've been running this set up with everything else stock for about 3 years now. I greatly improved my fuel economy. I haven't dynoed it or anything, but you can feel that the power band has moved up to a higher RPM. Low end power feels about the same, but you need to turn more RPM's on take off. It did improve the top end. You really feel the differency between second and third. One advantage, is that I can stay in gear longer. I can run 1st to about 35 mph and second to about 75 -80, depending on how hard you push it. I never hit 5th. At interstate speeds in 4th, I am barley taching 1,800 rpm.

There was also a post earlier about shimming the throtle cable on the 99-00 models. I haven't tried that yet, but I figure I will try it on both of my cars. I could see where that could make a difference. I notice there is a lot of slack on both of my cars.

I hope this helps.
