First off, does your state do periodic smog testing? If not, you can cut them out, but you will need MIL eliminators. Steeda sells them for around $65-70.00. They will keep your check engine lite from comming on.

Yes, but without the other 2 cats, and o2 sensors, the light will come back on every time you run the car.

I had the steeda mil eliminators on my old sixer and the GT also has them, and they work just fine.

I don't have any cats and LOVE the sound...BUT I need exhaust work done that I don't have the equipment or pacience to do myself. And now I cannot find a shop anywhere in town that will work on my car because, even though we don't have emission checks, it is still illegal and they don't want to take the chance of getting fined. I even suggested that I could pay them "under the table", still no. So, it's nice not to have them, but it can get annoying if you ever need work done to it. Now I'm going to put cats on anyways just so someone will work on my car...[&:]

I guess that is all about who you know. I live in cali where it is very illegal to do that and not only is a local shop going to cut them off, he is going to run new pipes. Being that i work at a local stereo shop i do alot of trades with other shops.
Basicly what im saying is there is somebody out there will do it, you just need to come at them right!

wait til you need a smog check. He's a total idiot if he does it. If he's a smog tech, not only is he risking losing his license, but he's risking jail time. And just because it's your friend doing it, doesn't mean he can't get caught. I've had undercovers come in and wait for smog checks. If they see him do something illegal, even on someone else's car, he's toast. And IMO, any friend that would endanger him by even asking, is no friend.

NOTE TO SELF..
Call Phill at the BAR and have him send undercovers into Lakeport...
