A/C coming on and off
I've got a 2000 V6 with about 105550 miles. The ac has been acting weird lately. It went out a couple of day ago, so i took it to get recharged. The mechanic tested the freon levels and they were perfect. He tested all the fuses and they were good to. He said it was probably an electrical problem but he wasn't sure. It started back workin again a few minutes later and worked all through the weekend. Today it went out again but came back on a couple minutes later. Does anyone know wut is going on with my ac?
My A/C did the same thing twice yesterday. Blew hot air for a little while, then straightened out and seemed to be fine. Nothing open here on the weekends so I haven't had it checked out yet. I have a 2000 V6 with 100K.

Could be a bad clutch on the compressor kicking out or the t - stat.
BTW. You don't have any 'freon' in your system, it's called R134A.

jrspony. I would guess you have a bad compressor. Either the clutch or possibly a reed valve sticking or bent.

I would check the A/C clutch. When the A/C is not cooling, check to see if the A/C clutch is engaged or not. If it is and it's not cooling then it could be a clog in the system (orifice tube or condensor are the two most likely locations for a clog). If it's not engaging then either the air gap is incorrect on the clutch(too large) or the clutch is bad.
It's much easier and cheaper to replace a/c clutch vs replacing the compressor/clutch assembly. Why? Because you don't have to open the system up to replace a clutch. Compressor you do which means a new Liquid line AND Accumulator/drier. $80 bucks for a clutch vs $400 for a compressor/clutch, accumulator, liquid line, + evac/charge/leak test (another $100-150).
Edit: Okay now I know why I've never heard of reed valve, It's internal to the Compressor. If that's bad, just buy a new compressor....

Yep, they are inside. It's common to screw them up if some one over fills the system which is easy to do now days with no sight glass.
It wasn't the clutch, there was an electrical problem in the relay for the A/C. A local shop hot wired it and now its blowin ice cookies.
They said a relay was damaged but u can't replace just one relay in the box for the A/C, you'd have to replace the whole thing which costs about $500 for the part.. Thanks for all your help though
