Replacement Top
Hello. I came here because I need some info. A coworker of mine wants to sell his '86 Mustang LX. The running parts in the car are in good condition, but the inside could use a little work. I would buy it, but the problem is the convertable top. The rear plastic window is missing, and there are holes in the fabric. He has purchased a new top, and says he will put it on before he sells it to me. He said he paid $1500 for the top, and is asking $2000 for the car. First, do you think the car is worth that much? It has 74000 miles on it, but he claims the engine is newer, and only has ~20000 miles. Bluebook puts it around $1200. Secondly, does a new top really run at $1500? If it does, do you think the car is worth buying at $2000? Thanks for the help!
no offense, but i dont understand why new guys come in here with 5.0 questiond, 86 is NOT classic. 64 - 73 is. try this forum, im assuming you have a 5.0: https://mustangforums.com/forumid_14/tt.htm
Sorry, I didn't know what yalls definition of classic was. I just figured hye, it's 20 years old, I'll put it here. So... copy paste time I guess. It is actually a V6 3.8, I guess that would go in the V6 section...

but to answer your question, yes it could cost around 1500. and for the holes in the interior just get some seat covers and youll be fine. itll look pretty clean.
