Replacement Top
Hello. I came here because I need some info. A coworker of mine wants to sell his '86 Mustang LX. The running parts in the car are in good condition, but the inside could use a little work. I would buy it, but the problem is the convertable top. The rear plastic window is missing, and there are holes in the fabric. He has purchased a new top, and says he will put it on before he sells it to me. He said he paid $1500 for the top, and is asking $2000 for the car. First, do you think the car is worth that much? It has 74000 miles on it, but he claims the engine is newer, and only has ~20000 miles. Bluebook puts it around $1200. Secondly, does a new top really run at $1500? If it does, do you think the car is worth buying at $2000? Thanks for the help!
--I moved this from the Classics section, I didn't really know where to put it at first. It is a V6 3.8.

I was going to do the Carfax thing, but they make you pay 30 bucks for a free month trial, but I would only use it once, so that would be $30 for one report... Seems a bit steep fro me. Is there a cheaper/free way to get carfax reports?
yeah dude try OFFTOPIC , here's link https://mustangforums.com/forumid_7/tt.htm . Post there saying that you need a carfax report and someone'll help you
Not to stir any of the stuff no one wants to step in, but 1500.00for a top thats not installed is way to steep, when I paid 900.00 for mine with glass+defrost installed. depending what shape the rest of the cars in,it might be worth the 2grand with the new top on.
