when i downshift into first ( not to drop it and go, just like slowing down from 20 mph or lower) there is a weird noise, almost a very slight grinding noise or whirring noise that comes from the car. its only when downshifting into 1st, and i dont notice it when starting from a stop. what could this be, or is it nothing? i bought the car w/ a 6 month/7600 mile powertrain warrenty from the dealer so im not worried about it if its serious.

Could be the clutch or the gear itself. Take it to a shop and have it checked over, because you might as well claim on the warrenty before it wears out.

mine won't hardly go into first under 15 mph at all, sometimes it'll have to be closer to 5-10. it's just the nature of the beast (t5 or t45) i think

Yea, I have that problem almost have to force it into first above 10-15 mph.
