Default Ball joint issues

Greets all, This'll be my first post here. Like the site, lots of good info here. Consequently I'm sure I'll be able to get some good info on my issue.

So I had a lower ball joint completely break on me (ball pulled out of socket), thank heavens it wasn't on the highway. Anyways the LCA is scrapping on the ground and I had it towed back to my driveway. I've done BJ's on my 98 Blazer (bolt-ins), so I figure the mustang should be do-able. I have a couple of Q's though.

-When pressing out the lowers from the LCA, do they come out downward or upward? It looks like they come out downward.

-Will they just press out? I bought a HarborFrieght cheapie balljoint press, I know HF sucks and I'll buy a real one if this one breaks. I've read they will just press out, but after looking at it, it appears that there is some kind of flange on the top that is larger than the hole in the LCA which would prevent them from being pressed out downward out the the LCA.

I've never really worked on any ford stuff before, so any input would be much appreciated, thanks.
