So I don't know if my mind was playing tricks on me or not, but I took overdrive off on my car at a redlight today and took off and it SEEMED like a noticeable difference in power. What does Overdrive do? I've heard it saves gas, that true??

 

not real sure if it give u any more power but it gives you an extra gear when you are on the high way making you save gas by traveling at a lower rpm

 

when you take off overdrive, its pretty much taking your 5 gear away, and your car gets into higher rpms b4 shifting so thats prolly why you thot u had more power, but when overdrive is on you get better gas milage because your car is running in lower rpms and shifting in lower rpms

 

i drive a stick so i really wouldnt know but, my dads truck feels like it takes off faster with overdrive off
