Default Running lean

Ok can running lean create a misfire...Or a misfire cause a car to run lean...I was shooting white clouds of smoke and getting like 2 miles to the gallon, I changed the plugs and no more smoke, and mileage is up. What else could cause leaning and misfiring

running lean will almost always cause a misfire especially at full throttle.

white smoke and white glazing on the plugs is indicitive of a lean condition or even a red burnt appearance to the plugs shows very lean.

fuel pump and fuel pressure reg can cause lean conditions as well as a bad maf and upstream o2 sensor

Could it also be from bad spark plugs or a cracked exhaust manifold
