Default Crazy idea need wiring information

Ok, I know this is a tad out there but I have an 86 v-6 auto TBI mustang...doesn't run. I have a good 94 3.8L engine and AODE trans. I am going to swap in the engine & trans. I know I'll need a computer, wiring harness from the computer to the engine and trans and their perspective harnesses and also a fuel pump - will the '94 pump fit the tank with no mods? Will the wiring match up? What I need to know is what years harnesses can I use and what are the differences if any? Also, and here's the big one. As funds allow I am going to swap in a complete interior including the dash and electronics. I also need to know at what point (199?) can I choose from for the interior and dash that will still match up with the 94-95 engine & computer that I will need form my 94 3.8L or would I be better off using a newer computer and harness, 96-98 that is OBII compliant. This will be a long project but I think it'll be great I just don't know much about the differences in wiring harnesses from year to year. I'll do the engine swap now and drive while I save $ for the rest at which point I'll get a wreck for the interior and harnesses just trying to decide what year to use. Any information would be much appreciated.

all the dashes will fit. theres only minor differences there. wiring the fuel pump is simple so you shouldnt worry about that. as for the harnesses there will be some differences. i think the fuel pump itself will fit no problems as long as the 86 has an in tank pump. if i'm not mistaken the trans from the 86 may bolt up to the 94 motor. MAYBE. as for the interior itself you can wire up some of the connectors to the 86 wiring color for color but not all. most people who do the swap also have problems getting the heating and AC controls to work properly. i havent gotten that far in mine though. i'm going from an 83 dash to the SN dash. i'm just slicing anything i need off the dash into my harness and my motor is carbed for now so that makes it easier. but good luck with the rest. thats about all i know for that

My plan is to swap in the SN dash completely, wiring harness and all - even back to the doors, courtesy light, tail lights and all. The HVAC may be enough different to need to graft on some of the SN firewall I won't know till I can afford to get the wreck and see. Mostly I needed to know if the 96-98 computer and wiring from the computer to engine will work. Probably though I'll just wait till I find a 94-95.

How far along are you in your swap? Any pics you might have would be greatly appreciated. I like doing things that are on the outside of the norm. I think a SN interior in a Fox would be great and the engine will be more reliable and fuel efficient than the TBI it replaces.

yea well ive gotten as far as pulling my dash end steering column basicly. i'm goin to iraq in about two weeks so the project is on hold until i get back. go to www.modularfox.com and they have some good pics and info on swapping modulars into fox bodies. like i said though alot of it can be sliced into the bodies wiring such as the doors, tail lights, fuel pump, defroster, ect. the engine harness can bascily be a stand alone system. hvac controls and the instrament panel are the only two things you really need. for custom panels and guages check out http://www.florida50.com/ they have some good setups there for fox and sn dashes. but here is mine with the dash and cloumn gone. the rest of the interior was stripped but i put some of it back together to clean up my garage while i'm gone this next year.

Yep...it's gonna be a BIG project.

Luck to you oversees.

Once I get started I'll be posting pics, but I'll have to go REAL slow due to funds.

As of right now thats about all the info i can give you on this subject. modularfox.com has good pics and info about the swap and as for the motor and tranny issue (i dont know if the 94 v6's have dist. or coilpacks) you may be able to get a cougar or thunderbirds wiring and computers to help you thru that. try for the supercoupes if you have coilpacks. and for the dash area the best thing i can tell you is study wiring diagrams carefully and do what you can. thats what ive been working on right now is the diagrams since cashflow or time isnt something i really have right now. to tell you the truth though i would sell the 3.8 motor you have and inverst in a 5.0. your buying a wreck sn body anyway right?? find a 94-95 gt and use the motor and tranny from it and have extra money from the 3.8. like i said before though, just do your research, study what you wanting to do, and take your time. especially on the trimming and installation of the dash. it will look sick when your done. if you want keep me posted on your project and i'll help with any issue i can on your way through and maybe some off it will help me on my install as well.

I'll certainly keep you posted. I've done the 3.8L - 5.0L swap in a 94 model, also from auto to T-5. The reason I am going witht he 3.8L is (1) I already have a 3.8L and (2) because it's different; I like doing things not many others have. This is a multi-phase project for me but eventualy as time & $$ allow I am going TT. That'll give me the HP rush I need plus it'll have decent fuel economy cruising. Who knows a Dart block 331 TT may ultimately lie beneath the hood but that would be years and many dollars away. I'm gonna post some pics under another post "I found a survivor" in a few as the "before" and as I go I'll keep the pics with it but it'll be slow. Time & $$, time & $$. LOL

flexplate, balancer, and new rings, bearings, wrist pins . Aligned, decked, bored, torque plate
honed, glyptaled, neutral balanced, and machined. Important: We use full size crank journals
for maximum strength in power adder applications , we do not offset grind any stock cast cranks
because this severely weakens them.
