Get a 3.8, far easier to work on, last longer, etc

the 3.8 block, and crank are some of if not the strongest in the whole ford line, talk to cobra232 about this but i believe the 3.8 has stronger rods and mains then a 302 and has better flowing heads then the 5.0 or NPI

altough the V8 has 2 extra cylinders, and starts with more power. I tell my self that our little pushrod 3.8s have more potential. Just takes a lot of money. I think with the overheard cam design, theres more parts to blow up so thats why we can trust ours a lil more.

stock doesn't mean much when aftermarket parts are super cheap (IE 5.0's). 5.0's aren't known for their strong blocks, but 3.8's aren't known for being relatively easy and cheap to get to 500 hp (point where a 5.0 block is going to be pretty stressed), so that point doesn't have much value.

money is everything. I think with about 5-6 grand of mods you can make your car a beast but its still 5-6 grand!

he was saying on an internally stock 3.8.

as for frost0526, the ford 3.8 was copied off of the buick 3.8 but ford identified the buicks downfalls and weaknesses and improved on the buick design. the 3.8 is a very strong and reliable design. the earlier 3.8's (pre 96 1/2) had head gasket issues because of too many and too large water jackets in the block and heads. this can be fixed using the 99+ ford MLS headgaskets. it safe to say that 97+ engines are extremely durable even when a turbo or blower is used assuming the proper fuel upgrades and tuning is done

here is a link for you to read over even if you don't understand alot of it it's good reading
